If you haven’t heard about the new .law Top Level Domain by now, you must be making a conscious effort to ignore it. Back in April, we did a little investigating into what it was all about, and in October we gave you the lowdown on how and when to register, as well as the benefits of doing so and the cost. But how many of you have given it a go?

Antony Van Couvering, CEO of Minds + Machines Group Limited (the owner and operator of the .law TLD) has said, "The early interest in .law by the legal community has been outstanding. The legal profession seems to agree with our foundational policy: that every name sold under .law must belong to a qualified lawyer and that there is real value in domain names governed by meaningful, verified policies."

He further revealed that in the first week of its launch, the .law TLD brought in $1.18m worth of orders thanks to the ‘early access period’.

Lou Andreozzi, CEO of Dot Law, Inc. said, "Interest is coming from all corners of the legal profession. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure names that can help rebrand, expand, or otherwise promote the legal profession. Many of the associations have indicated that, in addition to their own use, they will provide access to the new domain names as part of their membership benefits. Law firms large and small have expressed interest not only in their names but also in practice areas. They see this as an investment to help ensure their position as a leading practice. It is exciting to consider the possibilities.”

Registering your firm's name with a .law extension is a useful investment as it protects your brand from any potential trademark infringements, and in a digital age ripe with imposters looking to make use of established brands, safeguarding your company's name has never been more important.
