Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility

At Conscious, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) isn’t a tick-box exercise; it’s a work in progress that matters deeply to everyone here.

We aim to deliver outstanding results for our clients while thoughtfully considering the impact we have on our community, environment, and the people we work with.

CSR sits at the heart of our values. We empower our team to support causes they care about, give generously with our time and resources, remain transparent about where we can improve, stay inquisitive about doing more, and collaborate so anyone who wants to be part of our impact can be.

We also align our approach with the legal sector’s own CSR commitments, so our work resonates with the firms we serve.

Local Community Impact

We’re proud to be part of Bristol’s thriving business community, and our local impact reflects both our values and our people’s passions. Wherever possible, we’ll use local Bristol companies to support our business, from local hampers for our clients, the marketing collateral we take to events and the charities we support.

Charity Partnerships

For 2025 and 2026, Samaritans is our chosen Charity of the Year. A number of our team have been personally affected by suicide, and we want mental health to be accessible for all. So far, we have raised £4,371 to support Samaritans’ vital mental health work.

If you’d like to support our fundraising for Samaritans, you can donate or see what we are up to here.

In 2022-2024, we supported Bristol-based charity Gympanzees, raising £17,500 to help build the UK’s first fully inclusive leisure centre. Although no longer our official partner, our team still utilises their volunteering days to help and remain strong supporters.

Our charity of the year is voted for and chosen by our team. To be chosen, you need to be “pitched” by a member of our team. Unfortunately, we do not accept charities that pitch themselves.

Business Community Support

Every employee gets two paid charity days each year to support causes they choose. Past activities include work with Cancer Research UK, Dogs Friends, Samaritans, Gympanzees, and even balsam bashing in Sea Mills.

But in addition to this, we strive to support the local business community wherever possible, including:

  • Active involvement with Bristol Law Society and regular attendance at local networking and business events.
  • Engagement with Active Teams, encouraging healthier and more active workplaces in Bristol.

Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility

We’re on a journey towards becoming a net-zero business.

Here’s how we’re getting there:

  • Mostly paper-free office operations.
  • Business cards made from recycled materials.
  • Preference for eco-friendly merchandise at events.
  • Encouragement to use public transport, car share, or walk when travelling to the office or events.
  • Bike-to-work scheme available for all employees.
  • Reviewing suppliers to ensure their environmental values align with ours.
  • Offering an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme to all employees.

Why CSR Matters to Law Firms

We know law firms want to do good; it’s part of their DNA. That’s why our CSR commitments matter to them, too. Many of our clients actively support our charity and community work, and we’re always looking for ways to collaborate with firms on their own CSR projects.

Our values make for stronger, more authentic partnerships.

Important Partnerships and Accreditations

We are always looking for ways we can better support our team, and offer more competitive benefits.

Currently we are:

  • A Living Wage Employer – Reflecting our commitment to fair pay.
  • Good Business Charter Accredited – Meeting the UK’s benchmark for responsible business, supported by the fact that 97% of the public want businesses to act responsibly.

Supporting you

As well as your team in the role you will be doing, you will also be supported by the Wellbeing Team - who have Mental Health First Aid training; the Green Team - who are striving to make Conscious a greener place to be, and the Fun Team – well, they do what it says on the tin.

Employee Engagement and Workplace Wellbeing

Our CSR starts with us, with a workplace where our people feel valued, supported, and empowered.

Our Wellbeing Team comprises six members of the Conscious team from various departments, each with different tenures in the business. These team members are mental health first-aid trained, providing support to colleagues when needed.

Our Fun Team organises regular social and fundraising events, both virtual and in-person, to encourage collaboration, socialisation, and community engagement.

Our annual Conscious Conference is a two-day event where the whole team can connect, learn, and celebrate together.

Diversity and inclusion are other areas that are very important to us, and something we are striving to ensure we fit. Currently, we have a gender-balanced team (52% female, 48% male) with a wide range of ages, experiences, and career backgrounds.

At Conscious, we have an “up, sideways, or out” promotion policy, encouraging career development and team moves to match strengths and ambitions.

Future Commitments (2025–2028)

Our goals and ambitions for CSR don’t stop there. Over the next three years, we’ll be continuing to support our employees, the local community and charity organisations.

We’ll measure our progress through clear internal goals, transparent reporting, and regular updates across the business.

If you have any other questions about Conscious’ CSR, please email the team at support@conscious.co.uk, and we’d be happy to answer any questions you have.
