Junior Web Developer

Primary Role

This is a Junior Web Developer role in the Development team, building and updating client websites on both WordPress and our own proprietary CMS platform, at a 47-person web agency in the heart of Bristol.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable skills in HTML and CSS, coupled with an appreciation of design. Any experience of JavaScript or WordPress would be welcomed, though not essential as you’ll learn this whilst in the role.

About You

The right candidate for this role will have experience in editing or maintaining the front-end code of a website, though you may also have built some form of website before and now you’re looking to take the next step up in your career.

You enjoy problem solving and understand how important this is to be able to provide the best solution for the client. Clear communication and a confident phone manner will make it easy to liaise directly with clients to clarify requirements and demonstrate changes.

Similarly, your eye for design will be tested, as you will need to be able to discuss requirements with clients and offer them practical advice on design related modifications to their website.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Development, your main duties will be to build new responsive websites, implement wider changes on existing websites projects and provide scheduled cover to the Client Services team to pick up smaller bug fixes and changes when additional capacity is required.

You will work on both WordPress websites and, to a lesser extent, Conscious Platform websites, whilst working closely alongside our Project Management, Design and Content teams.

It is here that your ability to problem solve and enthusiasm for building websites will really shine as you turn Sketch designs into well-crafted, well-proportioned websites.

The varying scale of your builds (10hrs – 40hrs) and interaction with multiple teams will require you to have both strong organisational and planning skills, as well as a confidence to participate and advise in internal project meetings alongside the other development team members.

What our team say

Having a flexible employer means that if I ever need extra time to get something done, I know I can fit it in and make the time up later. Whether it’s a dentist appointment, a driving lesson or I need time to trawl around Bristol to buy a present for someone, I don’t have to stress about squeezing it in before or after work or at the weekends. I also get to work from home whenever I want which makes balancing my home life a lot easier (and I don’t have to pay for a dog walker!)
