ConsciousLaw Newsletter : Issue 25

David Gilroy in happy smiley mode! So what did you do with the extra hour this weekend? I used it to finish off our latest tips booklet (see below). Along with everyone else I was a little surprised to the economic numbers last week telling us we are still in recession. I was particularly surprised as in September and October we have picked up 12 new web design projects for law firms around the country, an intranet project and two CRM projects.

Social Media strategies & tactics are everywhere at the moment. Everyone's talking about it. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube. You can spend enormous amounts of time on these sites promoting your business. We are being asked about it so much that social media is the topic of our latest tips booklet. You can download a PDF copy from http://www.conscious.co.uk/guides.

If you do download it, I'd love to get some feedback on what you thought of it, or if you'd like us to come and talk to your firm about what you should be doing with a social media strategy then please just ask.

Regs....David.

Win a free book. SalesGame

SalesGame book cover The subtitle of this book is "A guide to selling professional services". It's a book I first read over a year ago, but recently revisited it whilst researching something for our 2010 business plan. I then discovered that I had FOUR copies, so I'm giving them away. To qualify for the draw for a FREE copy, all you need do is download our new social media tips booklet.

We were at Law Autumn NEC 2009

Social Media Strategy

Social media tips booklet cover Are you Tweeting? Do you blog? How's your LinkedIn profile looking these days? Social media is on everyone's lips and we've already got a brief update on social media on our website along with a link to download our latest tips booklet called 51 Killer Tactics to an Effective Social Media Strategy for Law Firms. That same page has a GREAT YouTube video explaining what LinkedIn is all about. Check it out. Also, why not follow what we are doing on Twitter

The new booklet will help explain why I've just declined a friend request on Facebook from a client. Read the full explanation on our blog.

Google Analytics Benchmarking - Part II

Google Analytics Logo We now have over 100 law firms benchmarked in our Google Analytics benchmark report . The benchmark will show you how your website stacks up against firms of the same size. Please read our blog page for all the details and then fill in the form on our website if you would like to download the data so you can benchmark your own firm against the 100 we've collected.

No really, please stop emailing me - Part II

No spam post box In the last newsletter I told you the story of someone who kept emailing me when I'd asked them to stop. Well, it's happened again, from another company. I got three emails recently with the subject of "Specialist Legal Profession Marketing". Perhaps you got one too? If you did I'd LOVE to know (just hit "Reply" to this email and just put one line...."Yes me too".) The reason I got three emails is that they emailed me personally, guides@ and sales@. There's more on my blog about why I'm so angry about this whole issue, not just the three emails, but the use of generic email addresses.

Featured LinkedIn Discussion

LinkedIn logo A new feature each month from now on is going to highlight a discussion somewhere on LinkedIn. Today it's the discussion from the PM Forum group around encouraging use of your firm's CRM system...you do have one don't you? The discussion is kicked off with some brief, but insightful comments from Simon McNidder, the CRM Manager at Pinsent Masons.

Quote of the Month

"If you can't demo a product in 15 minutes, you don't have a product". This came from a legal technology guy on Twitter. But it got me thinking about whether one can really describe their product or service

The Funny Bit at the End - How not to brief a web designer

The title of the article I'm linking to here is "If Architects Had to Work Like Web Designers". It's a bit old but I had forgotten I'd read it before until I read it again and it made me cry with laughter. Now, don't get me wrong I'm not posting the link as we have many clients who have briefed us in this way, but it is just a great, great read. Enjoy.
