Everyone I speak to seems to in the middle of a pretty busy month, we certainly are. Lots of CRM projects underway, increasing number of social media training engagements amongst all the other usual digital marketing projects we have underway. We ran a successful conference for the fourth year in a row in mid-May. 56 people came to the Coombe Abbey Hotel near Coventry for 36 hours of focused BD and digital marketing training. We even managed to get Craig Holt from QualitySolicitors on a panel (thanks Craig!)...and very good he was to at putting the QS model across. There's an important news item below regarding the recent changes to how your website can use Cookies. There's a link to our blog and a PDF download with our position on the whole situation. I've had two firsts in the last few weeks. Firstly during a pitch to a law firm in London, a Partner was tapping on his iPad, I thought he was scanning our proposal, but no, he was pulling our annual accounts from Companies House!! The second was finding that a competitor was running a Google PPC campaign to place their ads against our company name when someone searched on "Conscious Solutions". I had no idea until a client let me know. Important lesson here....when was the last time you searched on your own firm's name? Social media successes - win an iPad2
For every example you can give me of how you or your firm have made social media "work" for you, and by "work" I mean make you money, develop a relationship etc, you get an entry in a draw to win an iPad2. What I need is what happened e.g. sent connection request via a contact (name them) to an old client (name them) then followed up with coffee. Google Panda update - affected?
The aim of the update is to penalise low quality sites with low quality and obviously duplicate content and to promote high quality sites. Or is it to eliminate Google's opposition? Microsoft's http://www.ciao.co.uk was one of the worst affected sites). What does this mean for you? Well, you may not be affected at all, but you will need to be vigilant of your Google rankings - don't take any of your positions for granted, even if they are positions you've always held historically. Make sure the content on your site is as original as possible, any usability issues on the site are resolved (Google is penalising 404 errors) and have a 'plan B' in place - do you have alternative sources of traffic? If not, prepare a PPC campaign in case you suddenly drop out of the Google rankings for your crucial keywords. I've scoured LinkedIn, talked to loads of law firms about how they are generating ROI from their social media activities. However I still don't think I have collected all the solid examples which exist. So here's your chance to help.
Late May saw the implementation date for new legislation affecting the way all websites should handle "cookies" (the small files that identify computers used by people that visit your website).
