A man who was struck by a van while walking through a car park has won £5,500 in damages.
The man was returning to his car when he saw a van reversing, so he altered his route so that he passed in front of the vehicle. The van driver quickly changed direction, without checking beforehand that it was safe to do so, and drove forwards into the pedestrian. The driver left the scene of the accident without leaving his details.
The pedestrian suffered damage to his knee and his back but was able to take note of the vehicle’s registration number, thus enabling the driver to be traced.
When a claim for personal injury was brought, the van driver failed to make any offer of compensation. When court proceedings were commenced, however, a settlement of £5,000 was agreed.
