Rule No.1 : No social media after a drink

No, if you've had one, small, glass of wine, then maybe this rule doesn't apply. But anything more than that and this rule definitely applies!  Nuff said.

Rule No.2 : If you would not say it in person, don't say it in "social media"

Whether it's only 140 characters, whether it's a LinkedIn Status Update (which perhaps 1% of your connections might see) is irrelevant.  If you would not say it at full volume in a room full of people from the legal sector DO NOT say it in social media land!  The internet and the ability to screen grab have a much longer shelf life than your, or my memory.

Rule No.13 : Only instigate/accept a direct connection with someone if you've met or spoken to them.

This is one of my rules that "sets the bar quite high".  What I mean by this is that if you get a random connection invitation from someone you have not not met or spoken with, say no.  Check out this blog post to get some great text to use to say NO!

If you are checking out someone who is a 2nd or 3rd connection to someone you are connected with, then use the Get Introduced feature.  This allows you to choose the person who is best positioned to introduce you.  Now, with 2nd connections i.e. I know someone who knows YOU, then this is pretty easy, but with 3rd connections i.e. I know someone, who knows someone, who knows you, then it's a whole lot harder!

More to come when I get around to it!
